Moodle app Google copy-on-link assignments failure to copy

Copy on link assignments should launch the following dialog.

Moodle running in a desktop browser generates this Copy document dialog for links with a copy command appended to the document sharing link.

Neither the Moodle Android app nor Moodle in Chrome on Android launches the copy dialog.

Tapping on the above link in either the Moodle app on Android or Moodle running in Chrome on Android pops the following dialog.

On mobile devices with multiple accounts, tapping OK will lead to an account choice dialog.

Note that the file was created with the edu account above. Tapping on the edu account opens the spreadsheet in edit mode. On a desktop this triggers the copy dialog, not an opening of the original file for editing.

Opening the file with an account that does not have edit access to the file, such as a student account, also does not generate the copy dialog. Instead the spreadsheet or document opens in View only mode. Students cannot edit this file. Students might Request edit access, but that would edit the original file for everyone who copies the file. Students cannot be granted edit access, students must Make a copy to edit their own copy of the file.

Students will have to use the three dot vertical ellipsis menu at the upper right to open the document menu.

The document menu will let the student Make a copy of the file that can be edited.

The copy will, by default, retain the existing name.

Students should add their own initials to this document to help them search for the file for submission.

The copy can now be edited by the student.

Again, this will only impact students working on mobile devices. Students working on desktops and laptops will be presented with the Copy document dialog.
