Speed of Sound

Laboratory seven sought to measure the speed of sound. Krystal prepares to clap two pieces of scrap lumber in synch with an echo off a building.
Krystal claps in synch with the echo off of the K building - the bookstore.
Helping Krystal keep in synch are others students who listen to the claps and echoes. Clapping is difficult. The clapper has to clap loud enough to hear the echo, but not so loud that they deafen themselves. Tracy runs a calculation on her cell phone calculator, Syd-Lee is on break from clapping, and Deltalei is looking on.
Jessica uses a stopwatch to time. An earlier procedure used the time for 30 claps. This term only the fixed time procedure was used. The speed of sound in the 8:00 section agreed with the speed in the 11:00 section, but both sections were well below the expected temperature adjusted speed of sound.
While Krystal clapped, Irving used a global positioning satellite receiver to measure the "echo flight distance" out and back to the building.
Other buildings that were used include the FSM-China Friendship Sports Center. Keicyleen clapped the boards while Deltalei determined the echo flight distance.
