Seasons of life

A sunny Sunday began with the baptism of Ava. Ava celebrates her start in the journey of a life begun in Argyle. Argyle is still a world of close knit families, neighbors who genuinely help their neighbors and expect nothing more in return.
After an uplifting sermon from Pastor Dan, the whole now extended three generation family went to Partridge Hall Star Theater for Sunday brunch. The building was built in 1878 and was the center of social life in Argyle from 1878 to 1947. In 1991 the building was lovingly restored and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places (under the name Star Theatre).
Argyle will not likely be the center of Ava's social life, Monroe if not Madison are more likely social life centers for her.

On the front porch of Partridge Hall is a plant pot that fascinated Shrue.
The brunch was absolutely wonderful. Scrambled eggs, homemade vegetable barley soup, baked fish, chicken in cream sauce, pancakes, Belgian style waffles, and so many more dishes. Life in Argyle includes rich foods with creamy dairy sauces, high cream content ice cream, and regularly eating more than one should. Ava is unlikely to ever go hungry, either for food or friendship.
Headed to the Leo Johnson estate auction, Shrue finds a pick-up truck just her speed. Argyle is about history and keeping pieces of it alive. Last night we went to the New Glarus Polkafest. Young and old both polka'ed the night away as the Bob Klinger band played.
Seen below is Barb in action at the auction. Bidding for a basketball she unintentionally also picked up two boxes of toys. She also picked up a lawn chair, a soil sifter, a bicycle, and a set of four folding chairs.
An estate auction is also in some ways the last event in a long life lived in Argyle. After the sun sets, the objects and acquisitions of a lifetime may not have a home with a next generation that has dispersed to places far away. At the auction new homes are found for old and cherished tools, furniture, and the items of a life lived long.

On a lighter note, there may be new generations that are decidedly less traditional in their approach to life. Ava will have many paths she can take in life, Argyle is a great place to start.

An estate auction feels sad, it is the sum of the material life of someone who was once a little baby at the front of a local church. I did not know Leo Johnson in life, I cannot say I know him now. All I know is what he has left behind. I suppose someday Ava could conceivably leave her material things to a next generation via an estate auction. Beginnings and endings on a Sunday in Argyle.
