Darlington Canoe Fest Road Run

The three musketeers ride again.
Tough offensive line
While the kids played, I took the chain saw, a lopper, and machete, and cleared a bypass to a tree that has fallen across blue. I skirted the crown of the tree to the north of the original route of blue. Outside of one tree blocking horses mid-purple, and a snarl of brush and downed trees on north purple, all of the trails are clear of fallen trees.

All eight plus a friend of the family joined the Darlington Canoe Fest Road Run. I ran the five mile (8 km) out and back on gravel. The route was arrow straight along a former railroad right of way. I joggled, the gravel making the footing less sure and more wobbly.

The kids finished 68th, 69th, and 70th in the two miler against all runners which included adults. The youngest cousin from Spain was third overall in the one mile, taking a second place silver among the 10 year-old and under boys in the one miler.

Shrue finishes the two miler with strong push.
I finished 31st overall, taking third place among men in the 40 to 49 year-old category. With the gravel and occasionally uneven surface, I had five drops of a single ball. There were two railroad trestles and a third smaller bridge over the Pecatonica and a tributary, drops there would have been serious. The top three finishers in each category won a medal, so I took home a copper colored third place medal.

One category that was interesting was the two mile walk. Each contestant had to predict their time and the winner was the person who came in closest to their predicted time. First place was 19 seconds different from their prediction, third place was 32 seconds different.

After the run we all went out to the Riverwood restaurant for a celebratory dinner.
