Argyle Garage Sale Saturday

Early in each June the town of Argyle holds their annual garage sale Saturday. Any home can join in, and this year 45 homes held garage sales. Argyle is an idyllic little slice of small town America. The children really are all above average.

One person's junk is another person's treasure. Earrings no longer worn are inspected for their possible retro-style value.
The prime hunt was for chairs for when the rest of the family arrives. In this regard we did not do all that well. By the end of the morning we had acquired only three chairs. We were also looking for hockey sticks, but the only hockey sticks went during an unannounced pre-sale the night before. Insider knowledge is critical to success in garage sale shopping.
The cemetery is a testament to the age of Argyle. The oldest gravestone that we could read (not pictured here) indicated a birth date of 1806. Talk about "ahk sra oanok" - local families can stand in the cemetery and trace roots that go back over two hundred years. Even before Waguk danced for the hand of Sra Nikungus on Kosrae.
