The Island Food Community of Pohnpei run, walk, and plant was held on July 7th. The Upward Bound students engaged in their summer program were the largest participating group at the event. The event included running or walking to a location to plant local plants in support of the grow local, eat local efforts of the Island Food Community. Eat right and exercise for life are critically important messages in a nation with epidemic levels of obesity and life style related illnesses. There were three planting locations, the first of which was at the Pohnpei State Legislature. The second planting location was at Ohmine school in Kolonia. Volunteers manned water stops along the route. The third planting location was along the causeway. The morning was a beautiful, sunny morning. For laboratory ten the class viewed gas discharge tube spectral line emissions. The class also used CD-ROM spectroscopes. This summer I did not have the class build their own CD spectroscopes. This laboratory could use redevelopment when deployed in the summer. Gasma Hadley and Arnald Moody work on measurements of apparent depth. These are my notes from a governance meeting on Friday 29 June 2012 that brought together the cabinet, the council of chairs, the deans, and all directors. Nothing below should be taken as a direct quote, my notes are not nowhere near that accurate. All errors are mine and mine alone. Section 081 of Physical Science began with measurement of the relative humidity. Room temperature was 28.5° Celsius with a wet bulb temperature of 26° Celsius. This puts the relative humidity at 82.4% , although the tables used in class produced a result of 84%. This generates a heat index of 34°C . Again, table values were slightly higher. The lecture included coverage of the collision-coalescence precipitation process and orographic precipitation for islands such as Hawaii where the orographic precipitation falls on the windward side. On Pohnpei the lower altitude central mountains and small island size actually lead to increased rainfall on the leeward side of the island.
