Ethnobotany floral morphology
Class opened with the course evaluation. On account of the course evaluation the first few videos were dropped from the playlist. The playlist cannot be moved to the edu account: the video Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants by It's AumSum Time was changed to content made for kids and can no longer be added to playlists. The video remains available in the legacy playlist but cannot be added to a new list.
A song by Blackbriar called Floriography was added. There were a number of floriography videos, but all were seven to fifteen minute deep dives into the complexity of floriography. Whenever a system is that complex, with flexible multiple meanings for any one given flower given the rest of the bouquet, then there is clearly a high risk of miscommunication. I think the books on floriography were more popular than the actual floriography. In any cased the videos were tangential to the meanings cited in the assignment which are based on single colors.
Students are instructed as follows:
Flower colors have meaning. Red means loving, Pink means compassionate, orange means energetic, yellow means friendly, green means childlike, blue means tranquil, purple means royal, and white means pure. Which color is your personality? Are you loving, compassionate, energetic, friendly, childlike, tranquil, royal, or pure?
Decide which color you are and then go find a flower of the color that goes with your personality.
Take a photo of that flower with your cell phone and upload that photo to Moodle.
After submitting add to the Submission comments whether the plant is a monocot or dicot, the number of sepals (if any), the number of petals, the number of anthers, the stigma, and the inflorescence type (capitulum, corymb, panicle, raceme, solitary, spike, spadix, or umbel).
- Loving: You see yourself as deeply emotionally committed to a partner in life, you are passionate, devoted, and romantic. On the up side you enjoy a strong bond with your partner. On the down side is that other people may see you as pulling away from friends, you are also at emotional risk if the one you love does not have the same level of devotion in return. Your color is red.

On the up side you are not easily disturbed by events around you, you remain emotionally cool where others react. On the down side some people see you as not caring, and uninterested in getting involved. You may feel isolated and lonely at times. Your color is blue.

Rain arrived mid-playlist and plans to go on walkabout were dropped.
The following session on Thursday was on invasive species, with the botany students excused due the curricular overlap. The presentation ran long enough to drop the invasive species walk, and rain was again a factor. If the weather were better perhaps the invasive species coverage should be done as a cold open walk.
