The weather remained clear and rainless until 4:30. This provided dry pavement at 3:30. The class used the west parking lot due to weed whacking next to the east parking lot. Prep began at 2:30 which was barely sufficient time. Ixora Casei again provided the needle. Jayleen demonstrates to Litana, Jemara, and Susan The instructions were for those who knew how to make thatch to teach thatching to those who did not know. The leaflets of Metroxylon amicarum (oahs) were used. Emars demonstrating to Nakisha and Seniko. Emars is using a length of wood as her needle. A stem from Ixora Casei was available for making thatching needles. This is not what Pohnpeians previously used. Strips of the outer petiole of Metroxylon amicarum were used as both the needle and the material that was woven.  Santriko was a lead instructor, here finishing off doakoahs en Ruk in the same time span in which some students were still just starting.  ...

Waves day two featured more of an on ramp to an indoor laboratory. From the rope the explanation moved into springs and standing waves, both transverse and compressional. The compressional wave was hard to do with a fixed endpoint, the solution appeared after class when two students demonstrated the value of having anti-nodes on both ends of the spring. Other equipment used on this day included a PVC pipe for demonstrating tones. The SMARTboard's microphone still clips the waveform on the Academo online oscilloscope . The oscilloscope at Dood.al does not function on the Android on Linus based SMARTboard. And I couldn't get the signal generator at sciencemusic to retain a clicked point. I apparently overlooked the Sustain button at the bottom.  I shifted to using the SMARTboard as a tone generator and the Tripltek as a oscilloscope display. New options would help, although the sciencemusic generator has a nice waveform graphic.  The stopwatch is new this term,  a one off...

Last year a single LaMotte soil analysis kit was sufficient for the ten person section. A presentation provided directions to all of the groups. An attempt to locate and reorder the reagents failed.  As a result last fall two other soil test kits were ordered, one from Luster Leaf and the other from PooTe . Two Luster Leaf rapitest digital fertility probes and a digital soil thermometer were also ordered.  Where last year all groups used the same kit, this year groups used different kits. The presentation  had not been updated to reflect the kits in use. As a result the presentation was not used in class. Whether a presentation will ever again be useful is doubtful.  What was needed was hard copies of the directions for each kit so student groups did not have to share directions. Three groups used the Rapitest soil test kits with the four chambers. One group used the rapitest digital probe - that probe does not provide NPK data and should be set aside....

Strong gusty winds and near continuous blowing rain coupled with an increasingly leaky covered sidewalk are going to force this exercise back into the A101 classroom. There is no outside option. Exploration of the partially available health center sidewalk was ruled out - the wind is a ninety degree crosswind there with rain blowing in across the width of the sidewalk. The surface is combed cement, rough and offers resistance to uphill swizzling.  The width of the classroom is insufficient. The plan is to circle into the south aisle from the north aisle and hope to be somewhat stable, steady, and on a linear centerline.  New this term is an unbranded stop watch with a third decimal place in the time, auto power off, and a case with an access hatch to replace the battery.  The Amazon web site alleges that the watch is a Xinko, but the stop watch box is devoid of any branding mark.
