Katilingbang Bisaya SA Pohnpei sponsored a fun run and walk early Sunday morning. The run started at 7:00 from the movie theater and headed up to the intersection of Kaselehlie and Elenieng. A left and right onto Namiki Dori and past Grace's bakery, thence on up into Dolihner. A right at the Baha'i center brought the stretched out string of runners and walkers back down past PICS and into Nan Pehpa. A right onto Daini and then back to the theater. Daini is doggy, but the dogs were fairly calm today. First place female and male runners, MB and Rendy, with their prizes. Final meters of the run walk, heading in past Ace Office Supply. The run ended with an open air aerobics session in the parking lot.

Paddling around the house and home

With schedules compressed and all the elves busy with end of term and Christmas busy-ness, dinner might be baked chicken with cream of mushroom soup as a gravy substitute. When heading in the heat and stress of final examinations, it is always good to bring along a squad of friends for support. This young fellow has all of his friends ready for action. Normally yards are raked, or so is the custom elsewhere. Out here we sweep the lawn with broom made from the rachis of a palm frondlet. Hanna makes a clean sweep A freshly washed face early in the morning ensures a good day ahead. Melastoma malabathicum var. marianum (Pisetikimei) has a small fruit that that can be eaten. I usually miss out on getting to the fruit ahead of the birds, but a pregnancy in class required doing an ethnobotany final early in the day before dusk and evening rains settled in onto the campus. With finals behind them, Christmas beckons, and all is smiles. Wanida, Rosalinda Coco-Puffs is best when worn,...

Jogging

Mark Remy noted that dead and injured runners are referred to as joggers in the press. Understanding what the issue is for runners requires knowing that running media spent the later part of the last century chiding readers to refer to their activity as running. Jogging was looked down upon as something involving Richard Simmons and neon jogging suits . Runners were told they were in the mold of Frank Shorter. We were all Olympians, marathoners. Running shoe companies run ad campaigns that assert that you are a runner, not a pathetic jogger. An animal on the hunt, out for the kill, in for the win. Rule ten from Runnersworld makes clear the view that jogging is a derogatory term, "If you care even a little about being called a jogger versus a runner, you're a runner."  Being a jogger is looked down upon. Active discrimination is encouraged. Which bothers me. To paraphrase something Bones might not have said to Captain Kirk, "Damn it Jim, I'm a jogger,...

Attendance

Image
In MS 150 Statistics fall 2010 (n = 79) attendance was moderately correlated to the overall course grade (r = 0.58, p < 0.0001 ) but not to performance on the final examination ( r = -0.04). In this report the word attendance refers to the number of days of attendance. Click to access a larger version 46 of the 445 course points were daily attendance points, thus course average performance was partially directly dependent on attendance. Weekly quizzes or tests also couple attendance and the course performance. On the 53 point final, however, there was no linkage between attendance and performance. This pattern of a lack of correlation between attendance and final examination performance was also seen in SC 130 Physical Science .
