Finding Binky and meters per arcminute of longitude

I hid Binky down deeper in the swale I had used last year. This year I used brown plastic shopping bags, which proved to be better camoflage down low in the paddle grass (Ischaemum polystachyum). Heat conduction

The loss of the Monday video on an MITC scheduling collision pushed the heat and temperature videos back to Tuesday. I used YouTube on the SMART board in A204 to show the six video Eureka sequence on Heat and Temperature , then showed the video on Conduction of Heat . I was fortunate this term that A204 is available at 9:30, this is simply too useful for this course. I then ran a laboratory exploring the heat conductivity of different materials. Friction

Last spring I replaced the pulley laboratory with an open exploration of friction. This laboratory would be confusing for the students. The inability to separately control for sled mass and sled surface area complicated the spring run. A student glued two slabs of glass together and I instantly saw the solution: two glass sleds glued together would produce two different surface areas with the same mass. I would envision and built a prismatic sled, but I learned this term that one can simply stack three unglued sleds and pull the bottom sled to get a common mass for the three surface areas. Change the bottom sled of the three stack and the surface area is altered. The prismatic sled Once again open exploration proved difficult for the students. I would essentially wind up working one on one with each group to lead them through an exploration of the variables.
