Fruit salad

Image
The fruit was purchased at Ace Commercial on Tuesday and brought up to the college that same day. A running shoe box once again held the cans in the refrigerator for Thursday. At over 48 hours this was a record cold soak. A metal bowl was again used. All fruit was purchased at Ace Commercial. This term none were from Ace Office Supply. The session was prefaced by a fruit type presentation borrowed from botany soring 2025.  Because of the presentation, and deep uncertainty about attendance on the last period before a three day holiday weekend, no preloading of the bowls was done. Anticipating low attendance, only 20 bowls were laid out. Based on a 3:00 start being too late, I started at 2:50, but ultimately this proved to be a little too early. The use of the presentation was new and was useful for those students who were on time. Then the bowls were filled after the presentation, with students told to come up and take a bowl. There was, again, l...

Reflection and refraction

Chemical brothers Sometimes I feel so deserted was the setup song. Late morning start meant it was after 7:30 before set got rolling. Water was on. The large metal bowl was a non-starter. That was in place for fruit salad which landed on a Thursday this term. With one student in at 8:02, I worked to set up the boards in full.  Leann and Bennie Lanve working solo. Optics day one

Image
FSM Independence day landed on Monday of optics week, putting Pohnpei Constitution Day on Friday (observed). This left only two days for optics, Wednesday and Thursday. Spring term 2025 culture day landed on Monday.  Set was done at 7;30, water was off by 8:00. Preloading the water is simply a must. Presentation from the front replicated the spring layout. No mirror desk usage. The vegetable oil was a new addition. All demonstrations were done from the end of the table. This term marked the first time the beaker-in-beaker vegetable oil demonstration was done.  The inner beaker is a 100 ml beaker. Labels give away the existence of the inner beaker.  Reflection and refraction demonstrations as reflected onto the board.
