Petere in Latin, a root for impetus, would become impuls in German and l'impulsion in French. At some point p would become the variable for momentum. I set up a mock up on the table. Weaving between ethnobotany and botany is a challenge, each course including material from the other but encountering the content on different schedules. Can be and is confusing. Today was iNaturalist healing plant digital herbarium sheet day. I started the class with actual herbarium sheets explaining their original use and purpose, pointing out the location of collection, date, and the name of the collector. Then I noted that these sheets are ethnobotanical herbarium sheets: they contain ethnobotanical information and credit a source for this information as well. I explained that we will be producing the digital equivalent of these herbarium sheets using iNaturalist. I think this approach really helps focus the activity and place the activity within a meaningful context. I then went through the iNaturalist presentation . The class began with a presentation followed by a walkabout on campus.  A little light rain during this season of El Niño induced drought greened up a few of the ferns on the corner. The Phlegmariurus phlegmaria was still surviving, but for how much longer is unknown.  Joana on lead We then moved westward visiting the Dicranopteris linearis, Blechnum orientale, and Palhinhaea cernua. A second patch of Palhinhaea cernua provided strobili.  We then took advantage of the absence of mud to walk back to the Metroxylon amicarum to view the largest leaf on the island. There is a 3.1 circle and column chart data sets spreadsheet that frames the introduction to charts. This data is updated from an institutional dashboard. 3.2 rolls with the favorite color spreadsheet . This spreadsheet remains in a pre-existing account and should be copied at some point. Moving is not an option. There is an associated form to query the online section. I went with a blue shirt with black print, a black t-shirt with blue print, green pants, red underneath. This was a change from the past, but worked. A preset blue, black, green, red list on a post-it note, covered by a second post-it, was left with a student. Blue edged black by one with a tie below that led to the mode question. Then a black arrived tying the top. Then a blue arrived, pushing blue back to the top. Arc of a ball on Friday Groups had discovered the Canvas page on arc of a ball was published, giving them the equation. I was stumped at how to resolve the (h²-r²) in the denominator when I somewhat belatedly realize h is zero for a parabola symmetric around the y-axis.  

Leemay Leemay covered the use of  ilau steam bath for cough. Leaves are added to boiling water and a steam tent is put over the patient. Deondra covered the use of ilau as a tea for the treatment of fever. One four to eight leaves in water drunk as an infusion for fever. She then covered the use of ilau as an emetic. If you chew four leaves up and swallow them, ilau acts as an emetic.  Gilbert brought guava. Guava can cure diarrhea. Six or a few guava leaves. Boil and drink.  Jason spoke on the use of remek for ending pregnancy. Make tea. Drink. Continue making and drinking the tea until the tree dies. Ifancy reported that sei stops vomiting. This laboratory followed the procedure used in prior terms. The only change was that I opened with the Monday acceleration curve and omitted the Wednesday arc. This was strictly an omission, but this worked well because lab three produces the same curve as Monday, not Wednesday. Harriet, Darx working outside One group opted to work outside this term. Acceleration day one left open two possible equations that both fit the data, with the exponential reporting a higher coefficient of determination than the quadratic. Day two is intended to reproduce the left side of the curve. In keeping with last term, the sidewalk is marked in three meter segments. I wore my Hoka Mach 4 shoes as those provide a better board grip than the Hoka Challenger 7 series shoes. As long as the Mach 4 shoes are dry, all good. The complication in my first trial run was insufficient speed to reach nine meters. Oops. A second practice run with more pump put me over the nine meter mark with sufficient speed to make the u-turn at the top.  Desmos As with last term, omitting the vertex time helps smooth out the curve.
