Mars and Murrie day one exploration

This term a petty cash for 80.00 was prepared. Thirty bags of milk chocolate M&Ms were $66.00 at Yoshie.

A 1.69 ounce bag is almost always more than 1.69 ounces

A scale was brought to class - this term there is only a residential section. The section was taken to the A204 limit of 30 on the theory that students would have their own mobile technology. There are 30 desktops in the room, but not all 30 are functional.

As expected, students came with laptop computers.

On addition, every student present had a cell phone. By use of the Google Sheets app, students can complete assignments on their cell phones.

Some students naturally build charts with their M&Ms.

This term, as last term, a spreadsheet function was included in the introduction of the online textbook in Moodle. Submitting the result ensures that the student accessed the textbook in Moodle.

The syllabus and course support materials were covered. Weighing the M&Ms was bumped to the end of the period. The M&Ms are a friendly and fun way to introduce some of the basic concepts in statistics. The M&Ms exercises also helps the students realize that they already know some of the basic concepts in the course.
