Heat and temperature

I opened the Monday video playlist with a short preamble, a vocabulary advanced organizer of a sort. I asked about the room temperature today and received a guess of 80. I then showed the SMARTboard sensors screen displaying 26°C at 89% humidity.

The term I brought the ice in a paper cup that contained water and which had been held in the freezer. I did not try to measure the temperature of the liquifying coconut oil.

Outdoor air temperature in the sun was 95℉.

The prep room being at 21℃ and the room air temperature of 28℃ put coconut oil liquifaction between those two temperatures. The ISGlobal site was used to calculate the heat index. The SMARTboard sensors reported room temperature and humidity.

I wrapped up with a video of Lorena as a demonstration that heat adaptation is possible, and that as a furless animal, we were born to run.

Sunrise was very orange on laboratory morning.

Radiation fog hung in the moist morning air.

Coffee and doughnuts were moved away from the ant nest.

Preset forgot nothing this term, perhaps a first.

The 8:00 temperature drop prediction can be seen on the board above.

Eight o'clock start with water in at 8:45. I poured additional beakers at 8:45 which allowed those who were only a few minutes late to make measurements.

Louisa and Iasko

Gabby with Sheral joining from the later session

The right board at the end of the 8:00 class was left intact for the 11:00 section this term.

Cold open at 11:00. Passed out thermometers at 10:57. Poured at least eight beakers at 11:00. Then explained as the students took data. This allowed lab to wrap in time for an afternoon meeting.

This start was facilitated by pouring water at 11:00 into eight identical beakers. This kept times easy to calculate.

Jemara and Dantex teamed up.

Students that arrived in the first few minutes after 11:00 were given a pre-poured beaker.

Angelica and Joann recording data

Nakisha and Sinae partnered

Morgiana and Darla joined later

Students that joined too far into the cooling process were assigned to existing groups.
