Dropout Detective

Dropout Detective pulls data every night after midnight from Canvas. Dropout Detective does not interact with the SIS, only with Canvas as an LTI.

LTI integration means that you find Dropout Detective within Canvas. Dropout Detective is not a separate login. Current view: account level. At the account level data is pulled from across all courses. Second view, later in the presentation, is through your courses. That is the level faculty will see in their courses. The following screenshots are at the systemwide administrative level, the level a systemwide counselor would see.

Personalized dashboards with groups of students. Cohorts can be tracked. You as a school build these. You build these yourself, you maintain them. Really powerful. And allows you to follow specific students. These dashboards also can be assigned to/restricted

We integrate to Canvas, not to the SIS. We look at data across all course. Log ins, grades, missing assignments, last assignment, where are we in the term. Risk rating scale. 0-15 low risk. 16-29 medium risk. Above 30 high risk. More than half of our clients are community colleges.

The dashboard is interactive. Daily updates. Last contact is the last entry of a note.

Drill down to a student, Harper Nevin.

You can drill down to the specific missing assignments, etc. You can drop through to the gradebook view. Print data including assignment status. Data can also be exported as an Excel file.

Notes tab. Documents interactions with the student. Tags available. Alerts can be activated.

An alert flags the student with a icon on the main dashboard. Also triggers an email to whomever is working with that student. Only humans can raise an alert.

Blue labels is tags. You create your own tags. Tags are filterable. Alerts usually arises when a faculty sees a student struggling and wants to advisor to know.

History provides how the student is doing over time.

The black icons are notes were entered on the student. Can be expanded to even include the prior term - 30 week reach back in the weekly view.

The Grades tab shows the grade history for the student. This is loaded daily from Canvas.

The contacts tab includes "Ally" and courses with faculty. Allies are advisor and others supporting a student.

Course level dashboard. This is the dashboard an individual instructor would see for a specific course. Note that Dropout Detective is in the course menu on the left, Dropout Detective is not a separate login from Canvas.

As at the systemwide level, faculty can click through a student to the Overview, Notes, and History screen, but they will only see data for their own course in the Overview and History screens. This allows faculty to post notes and raise alerts for students. Alerts will also notify the Allies listed which can include advisors among others.

The college's subaccount structure is based on the campuses, which works well for distributing access authority by campus for Dropout Detective.
