Canvas analytics and assessment data week sixteen fall 2021

Week sixteen saw a dramatic surge in page views on the Instructure Canvas platform. Week sixteen is the last full week of the term for classroom instruction. End of term papers, projects, and assessments are likely to be contributing to the surge.

Weekly page views for the week sixteen were the highest since the week of midterm examinations.

The impact of the surge can be seen in the week sixteen daily page views.

The rate of growth in the number of assignments and discussions has remained fairly constant over the past few weeks, the numbers are not yet showing the decline that one might expect to see as the term wraps up. Growth in media recordings has dropped off.

Assessment

ED 303 course learning outcomes four and five appeared for the first time on the assessment dashboard. This led to the rediscovery that the program learning outcomes on an outline do not always match the program learning outcomes in the catalog making mapping all the more difficult. This was also the case for ED 304. Any mappings underneath these dashboards has to be presumed to be provisional due to mapping decisions and mapping complexities. When mismatches such as this occur, one is left wondering how current assessment systems aggregate data. In order to produce the feedback provided by the dashboard, the dashboard author is effectively left to their own devices on mapping decisions. Too, the outline usually maps one to many, which leads to grey goo, and thus the dashboard author has to make mapping decisions that yields a one-to-one mapping.
