Optics

This term optics week was not hit with a holiday. Monday was DVD throwback. Two years since the reflection and refraction DVD was hauled out and shown.

Wednesday was optical demonstrations including the disappearing beaker.

The double beakers are in the optics container along with the coins for the hidden coin. The 60-60-60 prism is also in the optics container and is not with the other prisms.

The board shows the progression from left to right of the demonstrations using the laser.

The demonstrations wrapped up with the image produced by a convex lens. Rainbow refraction was also mentioned.

A rainbow has a primary bow and, in reversed order, a secondary bow, with Alexander's dark band between the bows.

The set up song was Chemical Brothers Sometimes I Feel so Deserted.

The set up coffee was caramel macchiato three-in-one.

The fruit salad bowl was disincluded - fall 2025 the bowl produced spurious reflections and measuring the depth of the image was almost impossible. This term the bucket was added.

The mirror tiles are now roughly five. A new pack might be useful.

The above produce nine data points

At 8:00 a single student was present, Jaysleen. Notes and instructions were written on the white board as the playlist rolled on into various random songs. The opening song was one by Olivia F'oai.

Notes went up without comment. Students rolled in throughout the note writing.

Demonstrating the mirror including referring to the image as an illusion. Which called for Imagination's Just an Illusion.

By 8:37 the notes were on the board and enough students were in place to start.

Also at 8:37. Ten of 18 in place. Two more would arrive shortly thereafter. Three would arrive more significantly late. Two were absent without excuse, one was absent with a family obligation.

Eytriann and Moira work on reflection data gathering. Eytriann is recording the measurements made by Moira.

McGievens records data, Leona handles the mirror and object loccation. Mor-Jacinta makes measurements.

Jaysleen, Stacy, and Lidy-Loreen check the on board directions.

Meraia hold the mirror while DeAnne records data.

Jaysleen recording the data gathered by her and Darla. Alisha and Meraia discuss the image location in the background.

Unica working on the apparent depth of a penny in a small aquarium.

Having gathered their data, Jemira, Leona, McGievens, and Moira enter data into Desmos and work on mathematical models to fit their data.

The rightmost notes were put up prior to 8:37.

The only post-lab notes were the ones in the center of the left board.
