Ethnobotany field final
The field final is weather dependent. At 16:15 a rain band came over the ridge. Yet by the 16:20 start of the field final the rain has passed through. Although satellite photos suggested further bands could be inbound, the field final launched at 16:20.
The first plant was Ocimum tenuiflorum at 16:25.
Jasminum sambac was the second plant. This term a southern route was taken. This route eliminates the long plantless trek from the northeast corner to the gym.
Fiona, RJ, and Tisha on point at 16:26 en route to Ponapea ledermanniana. The choice of Ponapea ledermanniana was to provide fairly closely spaced regrouping locations.
Centella asiatica along the walkway was the next plant and regrouping point.
Cymbopogon citratus was the next stop along the walk at 16:36.
Dantez, Sinae, Nakisha, and Emars at 16:37
Terminalia catappa at 16:38. This term avoided the long wait for stragglers to catch up after a long inter-plant walk.
Saccharum spontaneum was a completely new addition to the field final.
Senna alata at 16:45, Keola, DS, Emars
Moving on to the Asplenium nidus has the class strung out along the track through the grass. Fiona was apparently asking Cassandra whether Asplenium nidus is in their islands (Satawal and Houk).
Jayleen. 16:49 at this location.
Not on the final, but in bloom. 16:52
Cordyline fruticosa at 16:58. Although the distance was short, covering this leg took close to ten minutes.
From the Cordyline fruticosa the class moved on to Bambusa vulgaris, Coffee robusta, Alpinia carolinensis, and Microsorum scolopendria.
By 17:04 the class reached Ixora Casei.
An alternate route around the jump allowed the whole class to leave the Japanese cemetery via this route. This also picked up Artocarpus altilis and Carica papaya (not Manihot escuelenta).
Nakisha lends a hand to assist Seniko down the slope.
The students saw that the Syzygium was packed with apples and flocked to the tree. That became the replacement for the Barringtonia.
Following the Pohnpei apple tree was Saccharum officinarum and Cocos nucifera.
Ipomoea littoralis was plant number 24 at 17:19.
The class adjourned to the gym area for rewriting.
Students scattered around the gym to rewrite their papers
All rewrites wrapped by 17:45. Headings back east at 17:49.
