Founding Day 2024

Founding Day 2024 was a sports day this year at the college.

31st Founding Day.

A short march from the east end of the field was led by ChuuChok. The day was hot and sunny, but only one student became overheated enough to require a medical check.

The layout of the games remains an area of discussion. All of the track action happens in front of the northside stands, not in front of the western grandstand. This left the invited guests and leadership far from the action on the track. Consideration might be given to finding a way to use the northern stands for the invited guests. This may, however, be impractical as chairs cannot be placed in the northern stands due to the benches. Still, the leadership wound up far from much of the action on the field.

The choir was a powerful addition to the day.

The thrill of victory.

Here the balloon toss is being held on the finish line of the track, the grandstand can be seen in the background. The balloon toss could have been moved, but then the support of the teams, their yelling of encouragement, would be ineffective and would put a damper on events. Of course the invited guests could walk down to the western stands, but most chose to remain in the grandstand.

Few students had the shoes that the track almost demands on a sunny day. Socks were helpful, but shoes are needed. The black patches of cyanobacteria were slick enough in the morning to drop one runner. No injury, but the track lacks traction. Runners with racing flats and spikes held a strong advantage.

The day ended with single elimination tug-of-war. Teams had loss members by this point in the day. Not due to injury or heat, just the natural wandering off that happens during a day.

The easy dizzy race was held in the heat of the afternoon.
