Botany lab four: Seedless vascular and nonvascular plants

The class began with a presentation followed by a walkabout on campus.  A little light rain during this season of El Niño induced drought greened up a few of the ferns on the corner. The Phlegmariurus phlegmaria was still surviving, but for how much longer is unknown.

We then moved westward visiting the Dicranopteris linearis, Blechnum orientale, and Palhinhaea cernua.

A second patch of Palhinhaea cernua provided strobili.

We then took advantage of the absence of mud to walk back to the Metroxylon amicarum to view the largest leaf on the island. On the way I did see one very small Cyathea nigricans.
