Canvas course learning outcomes overview at midterm fall 2023

As of midterm fall 2023 twenty-eight courses consisting of 39 sections are reporting 56 course learning outcomes. The data set consists of 16,000 individual outcome assessments. Online courses lead in the overall number of outcomes assessments with 5762 assessments. National campus follows with 4521 assessments. CTEC has reported 3584 assessments, Kosrae has reported 1953 assessments. Chuuk reported 170 assessments and Yap has reported ten.

Average performance overall is 3.25 where mastery is considered to be four or higher (sufficient demonstration of the learning outcome). 

Drill down to sections reporting is available in the above dashboard. Instructors have the option to remove points from the rubrics that include course learning outcomes, hence the null values seen in the left hand table above.

Course level outcomes from the institutional bank of outcomes can be mapped to program and institutional outcomes, those are displayed above. The above dashboard reports both against the existing eight institutional learning outcomes and the proposed five institutional learning outcomes.

The prototype pilot demonstration dashboard that displays disaggregated learning outcomes against student information system variables reports on 427 students. 

Note that the low course learning outcome average for Yapese male students is an artifact of a small sample size: there are only three Yapese males and 13 assessments in the data subset. 

The above chart shows the current score distribution systemwide, not learning outcome assessment data. This is essentially the grade distribution at midterm.

The average score by campus suggests that the online campus is performing on par with the residential campuses, at least in terms of the median current score. 

Drilling down to course prefixes and sorting in ascending current score order suggests that English, math, ESL, and science remain areas of relative academic weakness systemwide.
