Strava hidden start and end of walk or run setting
As of spring 2023, perhaps only after the first few walks or runs, the Strava app asks the user whether they want to hide the start and end points of their activities. The default cloaking distance is one quarter of a mile. For students using Strava to document walking or running activities, the cloaking distance can cloak an entire walk or run when done within a quarter mile of the start location.
For a student who is new to Strava, the suggestion to enable the default protected distance may seem like the thing that should be done. A student might not realize that this setting will hide their activity map from their instructor. For the purposes of auditing an activity, a hidden map can be problematic for an instructor.
To disable or edit this feature start by tapping on You in the lower right corner of the app.
Tap on the Settings gear at the upper right.
Tap on Privacy Controls
Tap on Map Visibility
This is the setting with the first and last quarter mile of the activity hidden.
This is the setting necessary for students using Strava to document exercise activities. After changing the setting, tap on Save at the upper right.
The result should be a map that is all orange (provided one does not intentionally or unintentionally select an alternate color for their activity trace).
This setting should be left this way as well for students using Strava to document activities.
