Spectrum and the colors of light

The week started off with the Limits of Light video. The licensing rights appear to have potentially transferred to Plex and their Go Wild YouTube channel.

This term I kept the board transcription information lighter and more focused on the spectrum.

Wednesday the class looked at the visible spectrum using CD spectrograph boxes. I had the students focus on what colors they saw and in what order. Some of the spectrographs showed the sodium absorption line.

In class I then covered the six apparent colors versus Newton's seven. There is a video that I showed on Thursday that might go better here and attributes indigo to general cosmological principles such as the musical scale.

On Thursday I demonstrated splitting the screen to show the lab ten report questions on the left and the online HTML editor on the right. The assignment, which can be seen in the course, includes both the link to the editor and the code to be inserted.

Some added notes from 11:00. I wrapped up with coverage of Color Grab by Loomatix. Friday will cover the blue light impact on sleep cycles and UV to reveal plastics.
