FSM National Statistics Day

20.10.2010 marked the first ever world statistics day as designated by United Nations resolution A/64/267. Reliable, timely statistics and indicators are indispensable for informed policy decisions and monitoring implementation of the Millenium Development Goals according to a United Nations Statistics Division press release.

Ritchie, Mylee, and Eugene stand before the banner at the Federated States of Micronesia national capital central facility building on Pohnpei. President Manny Mori declared 20.10.2010 as National Statistics Day. In the proclamation the president urges "all FSM citizens, residents, governments, private agencies, and organizations to observe this day in ways which promote timely collection, better management, efficient production and effective communication of statistics, and advocate the importance of official statistics and statistical literacy in the Federated States of Micronesia.
