Malem to Inkoyac on Pohnpei

June sixth is Malem Move-Out day, the day that commemorates the forced dislocation of the Malemites from their village to make way for the Japanese army headquarters of the eastern Caroline and Marshall islands. On that day the villagers were forced to leave, taking only what they could carry, from their ancestral lands on which they had lived for over 2000 years. Those too young or too old to walk were carried - there were no vehicles, no road per se. The Malemites moved to Inkoyac in Tafunsak. When I am on Kosrae I try to run from Piyuul in Malem to Tafunsak. Inkoyac is about 12 kilometers, Tafunsak about 15 kilometers, from Piyuul. The last couple of times I made the run I ran to a location just past the church, about 16 kilometers from Piyuul.

This year I am on Pohnpei for June six, so I can only cover the distance, not the actual route.

Yesterday evening I went out to put in what for me is a long run, covering 18 kilometers in a leisurely two hours and ten minutes (2:09:38). I ran up around PICS, down to the intersection of Kaselehlie street and Elenieng (KL), out to the Palipoa junction in Nett, back into Kolonia and out to the airport, returning to 4TY, up to KL, down to the Spanish wall, and then turning for home at the Santiago de la Ascension gateway. Inbound from Nett I was chased down and caught by a torrential downpour, cooling me off rather nicely.
